Today, 15 September is the International Day of Democracy
This year’s theme for the International Day of Democracy is ‘Artificial Intelligence as a Tool for Good Governance focusing on ensuring effective governance of AI at all levels, including international, to harness its benefits while mitigating its risks. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres underlines AI’s potential to enhance public participation, equality, security and human development, but warns of its dangers if left unchecked.
To contribute to the commemoration, you can call on policy makers to promote gender-responsive policymaking in AI governance systems, structures and processes. You can do this through open letters, articles, advocacy messages, or actions in any format of expression, directed at any policy maker of your choice. Specifically, ask them to take a particular gender-responsive policy action to address a specific policy issue that interests you.
The messages may include
- Call for enactment/development of policy, reviewing and updating policy, implementation or strengthening oversight and accountability of a policy.
- Policy makers to engage can be elected or appointed policy makers at community, national, regional and international governance and policy making level. These can include policy makers from Political parties, Parliament of Zimbabwe- members of parliament in their individual capacity or specific portfolio committees relevant to your issue of interest, Local government through councillors or specific committees relevant to your issue of interest, Constitution independent commissions relevant to your advocacy issue, Government of Zimbabwe Ministries relevant to your advocacy issue to mention but a few.
Below are some readers to refine your advocacy actions in commemoration of the day.
