Gender-Based Violence affects us all, whether directly or indirectly. It’s time to take a stand and create a society where everyone can live free from fear and violence.

Gender based violence activism week is about advocating against Gender based violence (GBV) in the society. As women we are brought up in societies that teaches us that GBV is okay whereas, Men are taught that they are not supposed to speak out however this has caused many suicides in the community. GBV also affects communities; it can also result in unwanted pregnancies.

GBV can also causes the increased gender inequalities in the long term. It’s high time we come together and against GBV. Gender-based violence which is a social phenomenon that is based on gender inequality has been one of the most popular human rights violations in the world.

According to European Institute for Gender Equality, at least 1 in 3 women has been victim of physical. According to The World about 35% of women in the world have experienced physical or sexual violence. GBV can take various forms such as Physical, Sexual, Socio-Economic, Verbal and Psychological violence. Physical gender-based violence involves physical attacks on women and girls which may result in injuries or even death. It may be in the form of pushing, beating, strangling, and use of weapons among others. Sexual gender-based violence includes sexual acts like trafficking, rape, and assaults.

As a gender activist join me in fighting against GBV in workplaces and homes. Let us speak out so that we get help. It is high time we come together as men and women and fight against GBV. As a gender champion there is need for policies to be put in place and adhered to in order to fight against gender-based violence. Join in us as we campaign against GBV during this GBV activism

Let’s work together to build a society where everyone can thrive, free from Gender-Based Violence!
