Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is a pervasive issue that affects individuals of all genders, ages and backgrounds. Despite efforts to combat it, GBV remains a significant challenge in our society, with devastating consequences for survivors, their families and the community at large. As a gender champion and online journalist, I am committed to advocating for the end of GBV and I believe that a multisectoral approach is crucial to achieving this goal.

The statistics are alarming. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one in three women worldwide has experienced physical and/or sexual violence, with many cases going unreported. In our country, the situation is equally dire, with high rates of domestic violence, sexual assault and harassment. The impact of Gender Based Violence (GBV) extends far beyond the individual, perpetuating cycles of violence, fear and oppression.

To effectively address GBV, there is need a comprehensive approach that involves multiple sectors and stakeholders. This includes.

Government: should strengthening laws and policies, increasing funding for support services, and providing adequate resources for prevention and response programs.

Civil Society should support survivors, raising awareness and advocating for policy change. Healthcare in providing sensitive and informed care for survivors and addressing the physical and mental health consequences of GBV.

Education in integrating gender equality and violence prevention into curricula and creating safe learning environments. The community should be there in promoting positive gender norms, supporting survivors and holding perpetrators accountable.

More so media should report responsibly by, amplifying survivors’ voices and challenging harmful gender stereotypes.

As gender champions, we must work together to create a society that values gender equality, mutual respect and non-violence. We must engage men and boys in the conversation, encouraging them to become active allies in the prevention of GBV. We must also support survivors, listening to their stories and amplifying their voices.

Through my writing and social media campaigns, I will continue to advocate for the end of GBV, pushing for a future where all individuals can live free from fear and violence. Join me in this critical effort, let us work together to create a safer, more equitable world for all.
